marriage

First they destroy marriage with "no fault divorce" and the sexual revolution and insisting shacking up is okay, and now they want the "open marriage" of many gay couples to equate to marriage. What's next? Polygamy.

actually although feminists promoted these marriage laws, as one wag put it: who won the sexual revolution? the bad boys...

So one third of kids are born to single moms...and this results in de facto "serial polygamy"....
what no one is doing is checking how women in polygamous societies actually feel about it...(hint: They don' t like it). Again, it lets the "bad boys" win...

-------------------------------------

a lot of the argument in the Philippines about the "Reproductive health bill" is that it pushes population control, not choice, on families, and it means pushing sex education in schools that pushes the sexual morality that caused this havoc in the US and Europe...but here, since the family is the main source of help in times of trouble, destroying the family will destroy the country.

Of course, MTV and the US television shows already do that.

Forgiveness (take two)

A couple years ago, a man entered into a small school run by the Amish and killed some children.

Such killings get headlines (that inspire copycat killings) but how often do we hear of the aftermath?

Bill Moyers discusses:

and yes, the video is now on Youtube:

Forgiveness

I think it was CSLewis who said the hardest lesson for Christians was not love of neighbor or even self control in sexual matters, but forgiving someone who wronged you.

"Revenge is a dish best served cold"...a famous line said by a Startrek character who is luceferic: proud and quotes Satan of Paradise Lost: Better to reign in hell than serve in heaven, and later he spits at his enemies in hate as he died.

I just retold the story of Gunnar's Daughter to my granddaughter: (a tale of Norway when Christianity was not yet the religion) and the sad story of her revenge on a man who scorned her. He turned Christian but she could not let her hate go...

I struggle with this myself, so I will link to some information on forgiveness:

David Wilkerson: How Important is it to forgive and bless one's enemies.

if we refuse to forgive the hurts done to us, we have to face these consequences:
  1. We’ll become guiltier than the person who inflicted our wound.
  2. God’s mercy and grace toward us will be shut off. Then, as things begin to go wrong in our lives, we won’t understand them, because we’ll be in disobedience.
  3. Our persecutor’s vexations against us will continue to rob us of peace. He’ll become the victor, succeeding in giving us a permanent wound.
  4. Because Satan succeeds in driving us to thoughts of revenge, he’ll be able to lead us into deadlier sins. And we’ll commit transgressions far worse than these.

The writer of Proverbs advises, “The discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression” (Proverbs 19:11). In other words, we’re to do nothing until our anger has subsided. We’re never to make a decision or follow through with any action while we are still angry.

We bring glory to our heavenly Father whenever we overlook hurts and forgive the sins done to us. To do so builds character in us. When we forgive as God forgives, he brings us into a revelation of favor and blessing we have never known.

Jesus commands us to love those that have made themselves our enemies by doing three things:
1. We are to bless them
2. We are to do good to them
3. We are to pray for them

In Matthew 5:44 Jesus says, “Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.”

Father Corapi

I never watched Father Corapi when his show was on EWTN because his smug smirks during his speaking made me feel he was playing a game, that it was all about him not God. I don't know if his preaching was good, because I couldn't get beyond his body language.

however, I have been accused as a doc by vengeful employees and once by a druggie who I refused to give drugs, so I will link to a post by a bishop who knows more about the problems.

Cartoon of the day

one of these days I'll write about the difference between meditation, hypnosis, the Jesus prayer and the prayer of quiet.

Summary

fact one: not everyone can be hypnotized/enter into a trance; the ability if neurologically wired into the brain.

Fact two: If you look upward and slowly close your eyes when you do so, and measure the amount of white of the eye present, you can estimate the ability to enter into a trance by the white of the eye. This is called the eye roll test.

Example: watch TV, and a lot of the actors will show a lot of whiteness below the iris; most actors say they act "as if"

Fact three: Ten percent of people cannot be hypnotized. They have a negative "eye roll" (hardly any white showing".

Fact four: Ten percent of folks cannot be hypnotized because they are mentally ill (e.g. schizophrenic, demented, paranoid).

Fact five: people who have a high score tend to be creative and easily persuaded to do things. Those with a low score tend to be scientific and non emotional. most of us fall in between.

Fact six: Practice enables you to increase the depth of the state of self hypnosis.

So what does hypnosis have to do with prayer?

Hypnosis is not falling asleep, but deep concentration, that allows you to enter into your subconscious mind.

In medicine, we do this for pain control (which is why distracting folks with music or films will allow them to concentrate)

This is also why powerful films in a cinema (i.e. where commercials and Fido don't interrupt) and charismatic preachers in churches or lectures can be so influential: In cinemas or auditoriums, you have fewer distractions so you are more vulnerable to their agenda.

In transcendental meditation, you are seeking something inside yourself. It may be God, or god, or self, etc. It may or may not be good for a Christian, since YOU are seeking it, and even Hindus recognize the danger of egotism and delusion.

In the Jesus prayer, it can be a way to keep Jesus in mind, or just words.

Theoretically, the prayer of quiet is supposed to be something that God grants to you after you think about scripture or prayer, and then quietly let the words sink into your mind. TM and other exercizes of quieting your mind will allow you to learn to do this, but the grace you get is from God.

Finally, some folks "panic" when they are hypnotized/learn TM. The emotions that you didn't handle but buried, the bad memories you covered up, etc. will come out, sometimes terribly. That is why I freak out when half trained nuns teach this to meetings.

I once had a man who wanted to stop smoking, and I refused to teach him, saying I sensed he might panic. I then found out he was seeing a psychiatrist for depression and anger issues against an abusive father.

You cannot be hypnotized against your will, but if you are a level three or four, you can easily be persuaded to let someone hypnotize you.

Finally, a very small few people who can enter into these states (i.e. what we call a "five" level) are the ones you see acting stupid for stage hypnotists. They are very vulnerable, and can be manipulated, and not just with hypnosis. They are often the folks who decide (under the suggestion of the hypnotist) that they were Cleopatra in their last life...and they are also alas the type who can follow the suggestions of a therapist that they had been abused as a child (i.e. false memory syndrome, and you don't need hypnosis to do this).

Letter to a mom from God

To the Sisters, Brother, Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and Friends of Trig Paxson Van Palin (or whatever you end up naming him!):

I am blessing you with this surprise baby because I only want the best for you. I've heard your prayers that this baby will be happy and healthy, and I've answered them because I only want the best for you!

I heard your heart when you hinted that another boy would fit best in the Palin family, to round it out and complete that starting five line-up.

Though another girl would be so nice, you didn't think you could ask for what you REALLY wanted, but I knew, so I gave you a boy because I only want the best for you!

Then, I put the idea in your hearts that his name should be 'Trig', because it's so fitting, with two Norse meanings: "True" and "Brave Victory". You also have a Bristol Bay relative with that name, so I knew it would be best for you!

Then, I let Trig's mom have an exceptionally comfortable pregnancy so she could enjoy every minute of it, and I even seemed to rush it along so she could wait until near the end to surprise you with the news - that way Piper wouldn't have so long to wait and count down so many days - just like Christmastime when you have to wait, impatiently, for that special day to finally open your gift? (Or the way the Palmas look forward to birthday celebrations that go on for three, four days_ you all really like cake.) I know you, I knew you'd be better off with just a short time to wait!

Then, finally, I let Trig's mom and dad find out before he was born that this little boy will truly be a GIFT. They were told in early tests that Trig may provide more challenges, and more joy, than what they ever may have imagined or ever asked for.

Sarah Palin and Trig by an Alaskan campfire, 2010

At first the news seemed unreal and sad and confusing. But I gave Trig's mom and dad lots of time to think about it because they needed lots of time to understand that everything will be OK, in fact, everything will be great, because I only want the best for you!

I've given Trig's mom and dad peace and joy as they wait to meet their new son. I gave them a happy anticipation because they asked me for that.

I'll give all of you the same happy anticipation and strength to deal with Trig's challenges, but I won't impose on you... I just need to know you want to receive my offer to be with all of you and help you everyday to make Trig's life a great one.

This new person in your life can help everyone put things in perspective and bind us together and get everyone focused on what really matters.

The baby will expand your world and let you see and feel things you haven't experienced yet. He'll show you what "true, brave victory" really means as those who love him will think less about self and focus less on what the world tells you is "normal" or "perfect°.

You will grow and be blessed with greater understanding that will he born along with Trig.Trig will be his dad's little buddy and he'll wear Carhartts while he learns to tinker in the garage. He'll love to be read to, he'll want to play goalie, and he'll steal his mom's heart just like Track, Bristol, Willow and Piper did.

And Trig will be the cuddly, innocent, mischievous, dependent little brother that his siblings have been waiting for_in fact Trig will - in some diagnostic ways - always be a mischievous, dependent little brother, because I created him a bit different than a lot of babies born into this world today.

Every child is created special, with awesome purpose and amazing potential. Children are the most precious and promising ingredient in this mixed up world you live in down there on earth. Trig is no different, except he has one extra chromosome. Doctors call it "Down's Syndrome", and Downs kids have challenges, but can bring you much delight and more love than you can ever imagine! Just wait and see, let me prove this, because I only want the best for you!

Some of the rest of the world may not want him, but take comfort in that because the world will not compete for him. Take care of him and he will always be yours!

Trig's mom and dad don't want people to focus on the baby's extra chromosome. They're human, so they haven't known how to explain this to people who are so caring and are interested in this new little Alaskan. Sarah and Todd want people to share in the joy of this gift I'm giving to the Palin family, and the greater Alaska family.

Many people won't understand_ and I understand that. Some will think Trig should not be allowed to be born because they fear a Downs child won't be considered "perfect" in your world. (But tell me, what do you earthlings consider "perfect" or even "normal" anyway? Have you peeked down any grocery store isle, or school hallway, or into your office lunchroom lately? Or considered the odd celebrities you celebrate as "perfect" on t.v.? Have you noticed I make 'em all shapes and sizes? Believe me, there is no "perfect"!)

Many people will express sympathy, but you don't want or need that, because Trig will be a joy. You will have to trust me on this.

I know it will take time to grasp this and come to accept that I only want the best for you, and I only give my best. Remember though: "My ways are not your ways, my thoughts are not your thoughts- for as the heavens are higher than the earth, my ways are higher than yours!"

I wrote that all down for you in the Good Book! Look it up! You claim that you believe me - now it's time to live out that belief!

Please look to me as this new challenge and chapter of life unfolds in front of you. I promise to equip you. I won't give you anything you can't handle. I am answering your prayers. Trig can't wait to meet you. I'm giving you ONLY THE BEST!

Love,
Trig's Creator, Your Heavenly Father

Hell is a new testament concept

Yes, there is a hell, but it's a new Testament concept.
And Jesus would send there those the hypocrites who make rules more important than people, or those who don't care for those around them.

the liberals who try to defend Judas against being called a thief don't realize that to someone who lives in the third world, expecting a "gift" to see a VIP is common, as is siphoning off part of the funding for one's personal use. But I doubt he betrayed Christ for money...having the authorities threaten you with exposure if you don't betray your boss is a common police tactic all over the world...

But then, a lot of "modern" biblical criticism is by folks who never lived in countries where corruption was the way things worked.

talks on prayer

Benedict's weekly audience lectures on prayer are listed HERE.

quote from the latest talk:

The intercessor does not make excuses for the sin of his people; he does not list presumed merits either of his people or of himself; rather, he appeals to the gratuitousness of God: a free God, who is total love, who never ceases to go in search of the one who has strayed, who always remains faithful to himself and offers the sinner the possibility of returning to him and of becoming, through forgiveness, just and capable of fidelity.
