culture of death? what culture of death?

Democrats in NY and Virginia both voted to allow abortion until birth, and now the Democrats in Congress voted down a bill that would require treatment for infants born alive.

things have changed: the last time such a bill went before Congress, in 2002, even Senator Hillary Clinton voted to save the babies. Sigh.

the news claimed that the charge that the VA governor supported infanticide was "fake news" but he admitted that in born alive cases he (or the doctor) would ask the parents if they wanted the child to be "resusitated" or treated, and if not,... well, the blanks weren't filled but it meant put the kid into the utility room until it died of hypothermia.

True, many of these children would have died even with the best of care, but what kind of mother rejoices that she can kill her viable baby even after it is born?

A lot of these late abortions are deformed or Down's syndrome children, but not all of them.  But since when does God or the constitution say that newborns are not human? Well, hate to tell you but bioethicists say that very thing, with their lists of "criteria for personhood".

Culture of death? What culture of death? You are being paranoid.

well, we grandmoms are next in line, so maybe not. ;This article is from 1984,  said old folks should die and get out of the way of the young, but back then it was condemned, but now we have the QALY ideas in place and a push toward "end of life" care and "assisted suicide".

I am not fond of overdoing care, but I am cynical about it: Follow the money.

of course, here in the Philippines, the problem is lack of money. Our working class can live comfortably but medicine is expensive, as is hospitalization. And it's not just the old: people skip blood pressure medicine and have strokes or heart attacks, diabetes causes renal failure and they can't afford dialysis, etc etc.

Sigh.

PDF of a summary of some 600+ US federal cases can be downloaded from Trafficking matters site and I suspect there is a lot more out there going on. which is why people are getting hysterical about the "priest pedophiles" and pizza gate. Yes, such things go on, but witch hunts hurt a lot of innocent people.

There is a supicion that Australian Cardinal Pell's conviction for a single pedophile incident twenty years ago was a set up to shut him up after he started digging up dirty money shennaigans in the Vatican. But who know?

As I have written about Altoona: we had a fake lawsuit against one gay priest, and it was common knowledge that the accuser's brother, a male prostitute who knew the priest, arranged for his underaged brother to falsely accuse the priest, to get money. The problem? Although everyone knew it was a fake case, the people and the jury settled in his favor, to send a message to the bishop to stop hiding these perverts and stop threatening the victims.

Sigh.

But the Altoona area was very corrupt, not just in the church but in the court system. The saga of Judge O'kicki is one famous example...and that case had links to the Silicosis lawsuit saga... and nearby, the Penn State Sandusky horror story showed a lack of sympathy for the victims, and might have been connected to the disappearance of the D.A. Roy Gricar.

and of course, the D.A. who blew up the Altoona Church pedophile case ended up in jail for leaking grand jury information on an unrelated case about a crooked Democratic politician. Coincidence? Who knows? But excuse my cyinicism: if every DA/law official who leaked "secret" information was jailed, the jails would be full.

As for the church: the latest scandal hasn't hit the US news yet, but it will.

Crazy Ann says follow the money to find out why ex Cardinal McCarrick got away with a lot.

What is the link between American "papal foundation" funding a "dermatology hospital", a child trafficker, a dead whistleblowing hooker, and the Pope?

I call her "Crazy Ann", but on the other hand, she used to work in cattle futures, and quit after the banking crisis, (see this story from a right wing site) so knows more about corruption in finance than most folks.

I'm not sure why I read such thing: You know that there are a lot of crooked people out there who will get away with stealing money and even killing reporters who spill the beans.

but heck, here in the Philippines, killing reporters who spill the beans or clergy men who condemn crooked businessmen or crooked politicians has been going on for years.

But only Duterte's vigilante method of getting rid of coruption seems to be condemned in the news.

Sigh.
