 when I live in Altoona, the bishop openly proclaimed that no new cases of pedophilia had been reported since he took office.

The problem? One of my patients almost cried when she told me how her husband had been asked by the Lawhers for the diocese to intervene with the family of a local boy who had been abused by a "visiting" priest, pressuring his family not to report it to the police. 

In other words, abuse had happened, the lawyer for the diocese knew about it (and presumably the gays in the offices of the bishop knew about it) but they hadn't officially reported it to him

I was half tempted to write a ltter to the editor saying he was a liar but alas patient cfincentiality prevented me, and also I didn't know the names of those involved, so couldn't prove it was a lie.

Sigh.

So Pope Francis had lots of gays and sexual abusers (e.g. his favorite artist) and appointed bishops who had dovere such things up. So waiting for a change in popes, we hoped things would get better.

And indeed he is doing a lot of good stuff, but a closer look at what Pope Leo is doing is not hopeful. Unlike the 1990s where we only had letters to the editor to expose abuse, now we have the internet.

If it turns out that Leo is really the newly anointed “Godfather” of the Lavender Mafia, then one should not expect anything bad to happen to McElroy, Grosz, Lucas, or any of the 150+ bishops credibly accused of abuse.

What better way to safeguard the future of consecrated life than by handing it over to men who bless same-sex couples, advocate pagan syncretism, and treat the priesthood like a job-share? That, apparently, is Leo XIV’s vision, judging by his June 24 appointments to the Dicastery for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life (DICLSAL): the Vatican body tasked with overseeing religious orders, including those attached to the Latin Mass.

Now installed at DICLSAL, Roche will have a hand in scrutinizing the constitutions, leadership, and very existence of traditional communities. The man who once called the old Mass a “threat to unity” is now positioned to determine whether the monks, nuns, and priests who love it will even be allowed to exist. Cristóbal Romero: Fiducia’s Favorite Salesman Cardinal Romero, Archbishop of Rabat, is best known for his ideological loyalty to Fiducia Supplicans, the Vatican’s Trojan horse for same-sex blessings. After most of Africa rightly rejected the document, Romero issued a statement urging Catholics to “avoid any spirit of controversy” and accept the declaration as a deepening of “discernment.” In other words, shut up and bless it.
