Actually this is true, what it means is the enlightenment (and since I am an enlightenment christian, which is sort of Pelagian/ works are important approach to religion that doesn't bother me).

But in the US, most Masons are good old boys who are Christians and like me see the brother hood of man stuff as merely a facet of modern Christianity. This was because in US Masonic ideas came from England, where the enlightenment did not hate the church but were nominal Anglicans. (In Europe, where it was impossible to break into the power structure if you were not nobility, they became anti clerical and then decided they hated God, who after all didn't like them schtupping the ladies or young boys).

So in Europe, where Catholicism was enmeshed in the aristocracy, the fight is more rabid and atheistic.

Given that background, you can see the problem he describes.

It is subtle, in te name of "mercy": But instead of protecting sheep, it is enabling sociopaths and anyone else who doesn't have a conscience to follow their own ideas.

Ironically traditional Catholicism is both strict and lax: The rules are strict, but they are lax when applying them to individuals.

So my aunt, in a marriage outside the church attended mass every day but never received communion until her first husband died. No problem. Ditto for gays and adulterers.

But now he is not saying God's mercy will help you out if you break the rules, but that the rules don't matter.

We can only “fix” our own selves through cooperation with the grace of Christ — through prayer, sacraments, sacrifice, endurance and perseverance, patience, mercy, truth, and the faith that is refined in the darkest of fires. Keep the eyes of your heart on the true horizon. Keep your eyes on the Bride.

the dubia bishops are not going away, but the Pope's minions are getting harsher and harsher with their condemnations, not to point out that certain bishops have scandalized the layfolk by pushing through a "who ever wants to receive communion, no problem". Paul, the apostle not the pope, begged to differ, but never mind.

If God doesn't intervene and soften the hearts of the PC trying to make the church into a social work factory, one can see schism.

The tipping point is divorce and the eucharist but it won't stop there.

Nowadays, we would ask: Is the theological difference a woman or a man. (Or a cute teenaged boy, but the attraction of gays for teenaged boys is still a taboo topic in polite society, as is the tendency to multiple partners when "married").

One wonders: Where are the Christians in all of this, and the answer is: Holding their noses and hoping for the lesser of two evils.

There are a lot of Catholic and Protestant prophecies that the church will divide, and some that say the PC church will be the anti christ church of prophecy.

But there are also prophecies that the revival will be when ordinary folks who pray stand up.

Here in the Philippinnes, with a Francis bishop in charge of Manila, I worry. But the Protestants are picking up the pieces. Sigh.
