I live in the Philippines so can't judge this, but if CNN says it's so, maybe it's true?
Religion is making a revival, and at the center is Roman Catholicism who has laypeople on line at the head, not the Vatican per se.
To some, the entire idea of a Catholic influencer is a paradox. Certain social media figures have become standard bearers of a consumerist, individualistic, echo-chamber-filled vision of modern society. Many would say that’s at complete odds with Christian values.
And yet, this summer Pope Leo met with 1,000 Catholic influencers – Sister Albertine among them – at the Vatican, underlining the importance of what the church leadership sees as “digital missionaries.”
“Jesus called his first apostles while they were mending their fishing nets,” the pontiff said to them. “He asks the same of us today. Indeed, he asks us to weave other nets: networks of relationships, of love.”
and now it is open, as we see thousands praying at meetings mourning the death of conservative and Christian influencer Charlie Kirk, a Prostestant married to a Catholic.
Glenn Reynolds, aka Instapundit, identifies this as the quiet people finally realizing that they are not the only ones with these beliefs and that Kirk's death is bringing them out into the open.
She describes the packed churches after the assasination of Charles Kirk
These young people are rejecting an ideology that’s inherently against the idea of God. And so, somehow in interesting ways, that has crossed into what’s happening politically. But there in my church, there is very, very, very little conversation about politics. That’s not the conversation. The conversation is people need Jesus and a return to traditional ways of thinking about identity and relationships, and our place in the world, and what really matters in life,” Howard explained.
What drew them to Kirk wasn’t politics. Instead, it was upholding traditions such as marriage and not being afraid to thank God for their blessings, said Howard.,,,
]
“The wave has been rising. And I think that the assassination of Charlie Kirk just reinforces some of these core values. And I think that it is going to be a catalyst in that direction for sure,” he said.
The Sanctuary wasn’t the only congregation to be filled to the rafters. My tiny little country Catholic church was packed in the aisles and at the door. People across X posted photos of their families going to church either for the first time in a long time, for the first time ever, or seeing their own pews filled with people seeking purpose and finding resolve.
Howard said this return to faith may not be just about Kirk, adding that not everyone at their services agreed with all of his politics.
“But the one thing that everyone is agreeing on is his boldness about his faith in Jesus,” he said.
Before Kirk’s death, there was this sense that if you talked about your faith, there would be guaranteed backlash, explained Howard.
“You see this politically. Well, it’s similar when it comes to faith, where it’s like, if I’m open and honest about what I really believe, I will be called a bigot. I will be called hateful. I will be called an enemy of love, and I will be sidelined, and I’ll be persecuted. And that has been the reality for the last 20 years,” he said.
“Well, now what you’re seeing is people who are saying, I don’t care. I’m going to be bold and unashamed,” Howard said.
“These kids have a light that pierces through the darkness, and that can actually change what’s wrong in our world,” Howard said.
“And this is our moment.” .....
Today, the dynamic is bold, unashamed: there is salvation in Jesus, and the whole world needs to know, and we are not trying to ease you into it or slowly convince you towards it. It’s like this bold, passionate battle cry. There’s hope in Jesus. And the boldness and the fearlessness has come along with Gen Z.”
a podcaster on the right, who often holds conservative Christian values and quotes the bible with his talks, was deliberately killed, by a terrorist.
Well, this is only one of several high profile attacks in the last ten years on political figures. Sigh.,
But anyway, I only follow a few podcasts, and didn't really know who the guy was, although I did see a few of his interviews on podcasts that I sometimes listen to (i.e. Joe Rogan and Jordan Peterson).
but looking around the web, I was astounded because a lot of people were crying about his death.
not because of his politics per se, but because they knew him andoften had their lives impacted by him.,
So I looked into some of what was being said, and again it was not the usualy trite sympathy sentences, but sad and often tearful statements on how he affected their lives. And nearly all of these seemed to be by young men.
Instapundit has a lot of links about him, but other blogs where I get my news were joining in the open mourning.
Ironically, there are a lot of "I am glad he is dead ha ha" stuff from the left, often teachers or in other woke professions, many of whom were young ladies.
Again, WTF?
The overkill and rejoicing of the left is disgusting of course, but it is so far over the top that it seems like it might be diabolical influence.
I mean you might see things like this about an enemy of your in war, but here it was supposedly for his haterful comments. Except his comments were not hateful: Just polite. In other words, they are rejoicing abou the death of a nice guy who the leaders on th eleft have made into a monster by manipulating and lying about what he said. So do they hate the man himself (which would be diabolical) or jsut the fake strawman of the cult of the woke?
and in the second and third day, this has continued, and even morphed into a Christian revival and people that usually were secular in their writings talking about the need for spiritual warfare.
here is an example from the satire tweeter Catturd.
but like previous revivals e.g. after911, I am sure the opposition will push lies to destroy this. How long until a fake lady claims sexual harassment or worse, similar to how Clarance Thomas and Kavanaugh were accused.
at the same time, I am going through a spiritual heartburn... severe dryness. I have been unable to sit through the mass because of muscular weakness and heat exhaustion like symptoms.
since I had dengue, I got my weakness back but in the last three months of hot season it got worse: not SOB or pain but just fatigue
so I asked Joy to ask the church if they could bring me communion which is done by the Catholic church for the homebound. But Joy or the secretary got the message wrong so when Father finally came, it was at supper time.
well, I was outside with the dogs who were in my room when I was napping so I went outside to let them do their thing, and to enjoy the sunset.
And the cook came in. Because she didn't know why Father was there she didn't welcome him in. I locked the dogs in the dining room, but by the time I hobbled to where Father was, Kuya went inside to find me, and the dogs all ran out, ran past us at the door, and started chasing the neighboring dogs.
Now, the day before and earlier that day, I was literally unable to pray, either my regular prayers or my talking with the Lord or reading and thinking and when I went to the door, I was still a bit confused from my recent nap...
So when Father looked me over I explained I didn't want to be anointed but just permission to receive commonion (and go to confession), at which point the discussion deteriorated because Father saw a fat lady chasing the dogs with her cane and then saying she was too weak to attend mass, so he started telling me about all the different masses I could attend. Well, finally he said he would send the person on Sunday with communion and left, and I was left without confessing or receiving the sacrament or anointing.
Diabolic oppresion? Confusion from my anti allergy medicines? Symptoms of depression? I went through some of this when I was writing pro life stuff years ago, so maybe.
well anyway, this morning with all the Kirk assasination coverage, I have been recovering the ability to pray, and by the time the Eucharistic minister came with the sacrament, I could receive it and pray for awhile after he left: I felt the touch of grace in this.
My diary of what I am thinking, since writing helps me clarify thought.
Mostly rants or thoughts about medicine, politics, and the whole damn thing of life.
Oh, Mahal na Birhen Divina Pastora,
Aba, napupuno ka ng grasya
Sa iyo’y nagpupuri at umaasa,
ang iyong bayan, buong puso at kaluluwa.
Dito sa iyong pambansang dalanginan,
Kami’y dumudulog, tuloy nagpupugay.
Aming ihahain, mga karaingan
Inang maawain, kami ay tulungan. (Cantabile)
Lubos ang pag-asa, Ina naming Birhen
Na ang aming daing at pananalangin.
Ay iyong tutulutan, sukat makarating
Sa Poong Diyos Ama, tunay na butihin
Maraming salamat mahal naming Ina
Sa mga biyayang aming tinamasa
Sa mga panganib kami ay iadya.
